Everyone was talking about Windsurf’s acquisition last week, while Kevin Kwok proposed we call them HALO deals: “Hire and license out.” That’s a good piece about recent AI acquisition deals.

Devin ARR is hitting $70M-$80M

According to a conversation between Scott Wu and 20VC, Devin is achieving a $ 70M-$80M Run Rate, up 5-10x since January. Including Windsurf, the combined company is likely at ~$150M+ run-rate revenue now!

Devin is a fully autonomous AI software engineer capable of planning, coding, debugging, deploying, and self-learning within a sandboxed environment—essentially acting as a junior developer on real-world software tasks.

By integrating Windsurf’s IDE, Cognition now delivers a seamless agentic coding experience, combining Devin’s autonomous capabilities with Windsurf’s developer-friendly interface—a pairing ideal for enterprises looking to automate software delivery at scale and reduce dependency on human coders.

Cognition has seen a meteoric rise in valuation and funding: backed by Founders Fund, Khosla Ventures, 8VC, and others, it reached a $4 billion valuation in Q2 2025 after raising ~$175 million in its Series B, following a Series A of $21 million led by Founders Fund in early 2024.

With ARR surging 5–10× since January and enterprise customers doubling quarter over quarter, Cognition is scaling quickly—hiring ex-Windsurf engineers with full equity participation—to cement its status as a leading player in the booming AI-driven software engineering market.

BrightAI ARR Hits $100M

BrightAI, founded in 2019 by former SmartThings leader Alex Hawkinson, is a Physical AI platform, has hit an impressive annual recurring revenue of $100 million as of July 2025, following a $51 million Series A co‑led by Khosla Ventures and Inspired Capital, bringing total funding to approximately $78 million.

BrightAI’s standout platform, Stateful, merges edge AI, multimodal sensors, drones, wearables, and robotics to provide real‑time observability and predictive diagnostics across physical infrastructures such as power grids, pipelines, HVAC, pest control, and manufacturing systems.

The platform tackles the chronic issue of reactive maintenance by delivering continuous visibility and actionable insights. It monitors hundreds of thousands of remote assets—250,000+ AI endpoints across 50,000+ locations—detecting anomalies before they escalate, automating inspections via drones and robotics, and guiding field workers through wearable AI copilot interfaces.

Key applications include stress detection on power poles, pipeline health diagnostics, HVAC predictive maintenance (e.g., ComfortAI module), and AI‑enhanced pest control through partnerships like the one with Pelsis for flylight monitoring.

After the rapid rise of mobile internet, almost everything related to learning and entertainment has been moving toward fragmentation, simplification, and shorter durations. This trend gave birth to super platforms like TikTok, and more recently, the popularity of short dramas.

The “Learning in shorts” in my latest article is a continuation of this trend. I explained how this model is being used in education. Applying the same model to reading is quite similar.

Recently, I found a fast-rising App Studio that uses summarization to build a book-reading product. Without significant external funding, they’ve reportedly grown to over $200 million in ARR. They’ve built a microlearning platform by summarizing each book into key takeaways that can be consumed in about 15 minutes.
