AI Agent is still growing fast, while Genspark announced that its Super Agent just hit $22M in 1 month, after hitting $10M ARR in just 9 days.

Eric Jing, Genspark’s co-founder and CEO, tweeted that this might make them the fastest-growing startup ever in terms of ARR.

The Genspark team from China is doing a great job of execution. After Super Agent, they now have two more big features like AI Slides and AI Sheets, both have a good performance.

Duolingo’s AI-Driven Growth and Pivot to AI-First Model

However, Duolingo’s recent Q1 earnings report really left a deep impression on me, with strong performance sent its stock soaring by 20% in a single day.

Let’s first take a look at some key user metrics:

  • Daily Active Users (DAU): 46.6 million, a 49% year-over-year increase;

  • Monthly Active Users (MAU): 130.2 million, a 33% year-over-year increase;

  • Paid Users: Surpassed 10 million for the first time, reaching 10.3 million, a 40% year-over-year growth;

  • User Stickiness (DAU/MAU): Improved to 35.8% (from 32.1% in the same period last year).

The strong user metrics also translated into outstanding financial performance:

  • Total revenue reached $230.7 million, a 38% year-over-year increase;

  • Subscription revenue accounted for 83% ($191 million), a 45% year-over-year increase;

  • Advertising and other revenue grew by 11%;

  • Net profit: $35.1 million, a 30% year-over-year increase.

A key driver of this success is the application of AI. In just one year, Duolingo has generated 148 courses using AI, a process that would have taken 12 years under previous methods. This has significantly reduced costs while greatly improving efficiency.

Additionally, new courses such as math and music have already reached millions of DAU. Duolingo is also preparing to launch a chess course.

It’s worth noting that Chess.com, an online chess platform, recently surpassed 200 million users, with 1.5 million paying subscribers. Chess.com has also integrated AI, including features like AI-assisted game analysis to help players review their performance and suggest improvements, as well as AI-driven gameplay against users.

Interestingly, Chess.com’s Chief Growth Officer, Albert Cheng, previously held product, growth, and monetization roles at Duolingo. I suspect Duolingo’s new chess course will also attract a fresh wave of users.

The massive transformation brought about by AI has led Duolingo to shift the company’s focus to an AI-first model. The company is also gradually phasing out contractors for tasks that can be handled by AI.

Here is the CEO Luis von Ahn’s Memo on Duolingo’s AI-First Model:

The Rise of AI-Powered Language Learning

Duolingo’s continued rapid growth highlights that language learning remains a massive and ongoing demand, with AI ushering in an entirely new experience for learners.

Inspired by Duolingo’s success, a wave of AI-native language apps has emerged, focusing on oral practice:

1. One such product Speak, is the 1st Unicorn in AI Language Learning, with an Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) of $50 million and a 100% year-over-year growth rate.

2. Another similar product, Praktika, has achieved an ARR of $20 million in just one year. It has garnered a significant user base, with over 1.5 million users engaging with the app last year.

However, new products continue to emerge with rapid growth. Another newcomer, launched barely 2 years ago, has seen its ARR grow 20x in the past four months.

What sets it apart from Speak and Praktika is its focus on a very different user base:
